Louisville Bulls pounds Vipers 28-0,

Bulls defeat Vipers 28-0 in non-league contest.

The Louisville Bulls (2-0) hosted another MCFL team the Evansville Vipers in a non-league contest on June 30th at Shawnee High School.

The Bulls received the ball first and Bernard Barnes lost a fumble on the first down giving the ball to the Vipers on the Bulls 42 yardline. Lamont Hunter gets a key sack on the drive when he hits Vipers QB Joe Brown forcing a fumble that the Vipers recover. The Vipers are forced to punt resulting in a touchback and the Bulls takeover on their own 20.

The Bulls march downfield on 4 straight carries by Bernard Barnes for a total of 33 yards. Marcus Warren then connects with TE Tyler Holland for 9 yards, followed by a 15 yard carry by Justin Jones on 4th down and 4. Warren then connects with Holland for a 25 yard touchdown. Brian Sheeley's PAT kick puts the Bulls ahead 7-0.

Chris Clark's 16 yard return sets the Vipers upon their own 29. Joe Brown keeps for 7 yards, then Ray Everhart ran for 7 yards and a first down to the Vipers 43. Brown has 2 incomplete passes, the second knocked down by Nick Kerney. On 3rd and 10 Brown is sacked by Kenny Hillerich for a loss of 5 yards.

Bulls takeover on their own 35 following the Vipers punt. Barnes runs for 12 yards on first down, followed by a 14 yard run by FB Nick Moore. Barnes loses 4 yards on the next carry, then Warren passes for 23 yards to Holland down to the Vipers 20 yardline. Barnes carries down to the 10. Jarmel Hopson's 10 yard run is the 2nd Bulls TD. Sheeley's kick is good and the Bulls lead 14-0.

The Vipers are moving the ball, including a 30 yard run by Andrew Hope, but Chris Branham's 9 yard sack on 4th and 10 ends the Vipers drive just minutes into the 2nd quarter. The Bulls go 3 and out and punt away. The Vipers move downfield to the Bulls 28 on a 31 yard pass from Brown to Bill Christine but an incomplete pass on 4th and 9 turns the ball over on downs. Marcus Warren's pass is intercepted by Mike Scott on the Bulls 47 on first down. The Vipers go 3 and out and the punt results in a touchback. Jarmel Hopson runs for 17 yards on first down. Warren is again intercepted by Scott, Scott returns the pick 17 yards to the 50 yardline. On 3rd and 9 Brandon Burfict intercepts Chris Clark's pass and returns it 13 yards to the Bulls 35.

FB Nick Moore has carries of 11 and 19 yards, then Justin Jones and Marcus Warren march the Bulls downfield, Warren with 4 carries for 19 yards, Jones has 3 carries for 13 yards on the drive including the 3 yard TD run with 1:03 left in the first half. Sheeley's kick failed and the Bulls lead 20-0

Evansville has 2 carries for 3 yards and the Bulls lead 20-0 at halftime. The Vipers get the ball first in the 2nd half and are again forced to punt. The Bulls drive results in a punt and the Vipers take over on their own 21. on 3rd and 3 at the Vipers 28 Ray Everhart reverses field but is brought down by Lamont Hunter for a 12 yard loss. On 4th and 15 the Vipers line up to punt when Taron Polk pulls down the ball and runs rather than punting, Danny Smith pulls him down for 11 yard loss and the Bulls take over on the Vipers 5 yardline, 1st and goal. Nick Moore runs in for a 5 yard TD. On the PAT attempt an errant snaps causes holder Nick Kerney to pop up and pass the ball to Keena Watts for the 2pt conversion. The Bulls lead 28-0 with 4:18 left in the 3rd qtr.

The Vipers put together and 8 play drive for a net of minus 11 yards including a 20 yard sack by Bulls LB Mike Snyder. The Bulls face 4th and 22 when reserve QB Keith Hughes connects with Tyler Holland for 17 yards and the Vipers take over on downs. The Vipers put together a 6 play 23 yard drive but the final horn sounds with the Final Bulls 28 Vipers 0.

Bulls FB, former KSU and FCHS alum Nick Moore led all rushers with 5 carries for 47 yards and a TD, Jarmel Hopson adds 3 carries for 39 and a TD, Bernard Barnes had 9 carries for 36 yards, and Justin Jones has 6 carries for 40 yards and a TD. Tyler Holland has all 4 receptions for the Bulls for 74 yards and a TD.

The Bulls defense was led by Rookie LB Mike Snyder with 3 solos, 7 assists, 1.5 sacks and 1 QB hurry, Lamont Hunter adds 4 solos, 2 assists, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 QB hurry. Rookie DE Andy Stivers had 3 solos and 3 assists, including 1.5 sacks all of Andy's tackles were for loss which ties a Bulls record set by Ricky Williams. Rookie LB Danny Smith adds 3 solos and 1 assist, Justin Jones gets 3 tackles on special teams.
