Frankfort Optimist Clubs Receive Distinguished Honors at Kentucky/West Virginia District Winter Meeting

(Frankfort, KY) Optimist International's Kentucky/West Virginia (KY/WV) District Governor Sandy Ruman presented Distinguished Honors Awards to two local clubs: Frankfort Optimist Club and Capital City Optimist. The award recognized achievements made during the 2006-2007 year and was presented during the recent KY/WV District meeting held at Frankfort's Capital Plaza Hotel. Optimist International's Distinguished Honors Award represents the highest achievement for which a club can be recognized.

KY/WV District Governor Ruman recognized the two Frankfort clubs as two of only three clubs in the two-state district having accomplished this honor during the 2006-2007 year. The Distinguished Honors Award is presented to clubs which achieve goals in reporting, financial management, membership growth or new club sponsorship. Together, the Frankfort Optimist Club and Capital City Optimist Club co-sponsored the Anderson County Optimist Club in 2006-2007.

Club officers during the time frame during which the two Clubs achieved these goals were: Frankfort Optimist - Sue Wood, President, Judy Zeigler, Secretary/Treasurer; and Capital City --David Prather, President and Ann Hester, Secretary/Treasurer. Several members of the Capital City Optimist Club, which disbanded during 2007, have since transferred to the Frankfort Optimist Club. Frankfort Optimist Ronnie Dunn, currently an Optimist International's Board Director, served as International President during 2006-2007, working with over 12,000 adult and youth members in 3,800 clubs throughout the world.

Carrying the motto "Bringing Out the Best in Kids," Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year. Frankfort Optimist meets each Tuesday noon at Frankfort's Office Pub & Deli, 614 Comanche Trail. Meetings are open and guests are encouraged to visit .
