Zeigler - KY/WV Optimist of 2008; Dunn, Gov-elect

Frankfort Optimist Achieve Kentucky/West Virginia District Leadership Roles: Judy Zeigler Named District Optimist of the Year & Wayne Dunn Selected as District Governor-Elect

(Frankfort, KY) Optimist International's Kentucky/West Virginia Past Governor Ronnie Dunn recently presented the Past Governors' Association (PGA) District Optimist of the Year Award to Frankfort's Judy Zeigler at the 4th Quarter Convention in Charleston, WV. The Kentucky/West Virginia District of Optimist International, consisting of 43 member clubs from western Kentucky to the far reaches of West Virginia, functions as a governing body to further the purposes of Optimist International. The District, governed by a Board chaired by the District Governor, supports the 43 Clubs to enhance youth service throughout the two-state region.

The PGA, which presented this award, includes those Past Governors with active Optimist membership, their spouses, and surviving spouses of deceased Past Governors. Dunn emphasized Zeigler's record of accomplishments as a member and club officer, who has been active not only in organizing new youth service programs, but also in building and growing new and existing Optimist Clubs.

Currently the local President, Zeigler's launched the Optimist Love for Kids Fun Run in 2006, while serving as a club officer. She expanded the fun run by doubling its participation in 2007. During her 2007 - 2008 Presidency, Zeigler helped club leaders expand existing service programs, while increasing youth involvement in others. In addition to direct service to youth, Zeigler has participated in every district convention, while working to increase Frankfort Club membership and build new clubs. At Frankfort Optimist's recent weekly meeting, Dunn made a formal presentation of Zeigler's award, in order that Club members could share in her recognition. Dunn emphasized that Zeigler's nomination received stiff competition from other strong nominee records, since Zeigler had been an Optimist member for less time than had other nominees. Nonetheless, the PGA chose Zeigler for the award due to her enthusiastic leadership in local and district programs.

The Frankfort Optimist meeting also commended Board member Wayne Dunn for his selection as Governor-Elect for the 2008-2009 year. In this role, Dunn will assist and provide services to leadership development, training and conventions throughout the year, assisting the Governor in evaluating and improving district programs.

In accepting the award, Zeigler said, "I thank Ronnie for the nomination, the past governors of Kentucky/West Virginia District, and the members throughout the district who give of their time to bring hope and positive vision to children everywhere. I especially want to thank Frankfort Optimist members who work at events, chair committees, serve as officers, attend meetings or just give a kind word to help kids be the best they can be."

Wayne Dunn thanked Optimist members for their support in his new leadership position of Governor-elect and encouraged everyone to become involved in membership development and building new clubs to serve community youth. Frankfort Optimist conducts positive service projects aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. Frankfort Optimist meetings are open -- members, friends & guests meet at noon each Tuesday at Frankfort's Office Pub & Deli, 614 Comanche Trail, Frankfort, Kentucky.
