Herrington Lake may be getting TOO HIGH

State and local officials said Friday that they might need to release water in Herrington Lake from Dix Dam and into the Dix and Kentucky rivers, depending on how much rain comes next week.

Recent rains have caused Herrington Lake to rise 14 feet. The man-made lake covers 1,860 acres bordered by Boyle, Garrard and Mercer counties. Dix Dam Manager Jeff Fraley said in a conference call on Thursday that the lake level is not a concern at this time, but that a managed, controlled release of water behind the dam might be necessary next week.

Officials are saying this now in order to alert Frankfort residents and others who live downstream about the possible controlled release of water
