The Frankfort Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Historic Properties will dedicate an arboretum area in Juniper Hill Park to James Durell at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 12.
The arboretum begun by Jim Durell with plantings started in the early 1980s contains a variety of native KY trees. Jim was well-known for encouraging tree planting and was particularly involved with reintroduction efforts for the American chestnut, which essentially had been eradicated by a blight.
The public is invited to attend the arboretum dedication sponsored by Frankfort Audubon Society. The arboretum is located below the volleyball courts and adjacent to the Leawood Drive extension (opposite Casa Fiesta restaurant).
