Country Gone Crazy

Patriot Published:

The looney CA appeals court ruled that students cannot wear shirts with the American Flag.  Those flag shirts may incite violence or put the students in danger.  Why is that?  Because the school has Latino students and it may upest  them.  Well if it does upset you then get the h*** out of our country.  If they attack another student who wears a flag shirt then put them in prison where they belong.  I am willing to bet many are offsping of illegals yet they get citizen status because they were born here.  Political correctness has gone crazy in America.

  • "If you were a first generation immigrant, or a redneck Southern boy from the deep South, then you might understand what having someone mocking your heritage feels like.  Why should Georgia crackers be the only ones who gets to get a little uptight when their Confederate "heritage" is besmirched?  Shucks, it has been 150 years since the South's insurrection was put down along with their racist Rebel flag!  If they don't like our country, or its proud flag, then get the H_E_L_L out of here."

Amen, Legion... except that it isn't a Rebel flag, and it wasn't an insurrection.  1775 was an insurrection.  But all and all, I agree with your sentiment.  Southerners have had to put up with it for years now, with their country awash with foreigners and sometimes collaborators. Now it is the Unionists' turn.

I am wondering however--given that these American flag jerseys were worn more to be anti-Cinco de Mayo than to be pro-anything else--why there would not be a right of free speech to show hostility, contempt, and disregard for an idea or persons (in this instance, for Mexicans), as much as to affirmatively endorse something.  I understand that Southerners claim "heritage," and that is fine, but why couldn't they simply wear T-shirts saying "I oppose integration," for instance.  Or to apply the analogue here, on July 4th, let's say this school's kids show up with Flags of Mexico (or something reasonably similar--Legion is very sartorially precise apparently) to show disregard toward the U.S. (as opposed to simply affirming their Mexican heritage).  Should they be turned away?  What would Legion say?

Hopefully, some local administrators will catch on, and send kids home, if they sport clothes demonstrating some kind of equal rights for queers support, such as for the Force Ordinance.

  • Come on, it was just a photo of the shirt in question that popped-up in the search...you didn't actually watch the tape did you?    After watching the tape, did you receive a phone call in which a girl's voice announces that you will die in seven days?

I do watch FOX News so that you don't have to.  Remember Michael Corleone's line in Godfather II, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."  Don't worry though until I start posting stuff that is completely devoid of facts like Obama Fan, ihate or pitch...or Fox News.

  • Oh no Legion. please don't tell me, uhh, Oh my god legion, please don't tell me that you linked Fox news to prove me wrong. The Fox News that you always harp on for their lies. I Know it's a misprint on your part cause I know you would never do that.  ;-)

"Legion this isn't an American holiday so as far as I am concerned, if they want to celebrate than go celebrate in their own country where it mean something."

Their T-shirts did NOT have a flag on them, they had some elements of the flag in their design.  There is a difference in old glory and some t-shirt with stars and stripes configured on them.  It is not a flag, it is a t-shirt, just like Peter Fonda's harley tank.

  • Legion this isn't an American holiday so as far as I am concerned, if they want to celebrate than go celebrate in their own country where it mean something. It doesn't mean squat to us and just like Ihate said, if they would get so offended as to assault other students then they need to be in prison. We should not have to pretend that we aren't Americans on their holidays just to keep them from rioting or harming us. Just who country is this! And they were wearing shirts with flags on them. I will say it again, If ya don't like our country or its proud flag then get the H_E_L_L out of here!

  • The 9th circuit court is also the most overturned court in the land because of their looney rulings.  Next point Cinco is not even an American holiday.  Has nothing to do direcly with American history.  It's a Mexican holiday.  So if they want to celebrate it fine, but do not suppress the rights of Americans to do it. -----I do understand some oft the logic of the safety/violence issue however they could wear it the day before or the day after cinco de mayo and it would be okay???  Also if a student is so violent they attack someone over the wearing of a shirt they belong in prison not school.-----in more madness a Idaho school/ recreational league has now banned cheering.  America is the land of Freedom not suppression.  We should be promoting tolerance and freedom instead of using the court as a tool and giving the courts way to much authority in issues where they do not belong.

  • Everyone here seems to be missing the point as these students were not wearing the American Flag ON their shirts, but T-shirts with a crude colored depiction of white stars on blue background that covered the whole right shoulder and back with white and red stripes on the other shoulder...these were similar to those worn by hippies protesting the war on Viet Nam that got their butts shot by out of control Natural Guard at Kent State.  Was Peter Fonda's helmet and an American Flag in his depiction of a drug dealer in the movie, "Easy Rider" when those red necks beat the crap out of them with baseball bats?  No...

Also, does anyone understand that the American students were wearing their "American Flag" shirts on just that one day to "outshout" and belittle the Hispanic students?  The judge acted out of a desire to reduce the violence in the school...and the inciting of that violence.  The judge is not Anti-American.  I am not Anti-American.  In a sense, those students were Anti-American... they were purposefully trying to stir up trouble for students celebrating a Cinco de Mayo...which had nothing to do with thier American patriotism.  Things I love about America.

"SAN FRANCISCO - Officials at a Northern California high school acted appropriately when they ordered students wearing American flag T-shirts to turn the garments inside out during the Mexican heritage celebration Cinco de Mayo, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the officials' concerns of racial violence outweighed students' freedom of expression rights. Administrators feared the American-flag shirts would enflame the passions of Latino students celebrating the Mexican holiday. Live Oak High School, in the San Jose suburb of Morgan Hill, had a history of problems between white and Latino students on that day.

The unanimous three-judge panel said past problems gave school officials sufficient and justifiable reasons for their actions. The court said schools have wide latitude in curbing certain civil rights to ensure campus safety.

"Our role is not to second-guess the decision to have a Cinco de Mayo celebration or the precautions put in place to avoid violence," Judge M. Margaret McKeown wrote for the panel. The past events "made it reasonable for school officials to proceed as though the threat of a potentially violent disturbance was real," she wrote.

The case garnered national attention as many expressed outrage that students were barred from wearing patriotic clothing. The Ann Arbor, Mich.-based American Freedom Law Center, a politically conservative legal aid foundation, and other similar organizations took up the students' case and sued the high school and the school district.

"It is truly a sad day when government officials are permitted to ban the American flag on a public high school campus for any reason," Robert Muise, the American Freedom Law Center's co-founder and senior counsel, said in a statement.

"Here, school officials feared that our clients would offend 'Mexican' students if they wore their flag shirts to school on Cinco de Mayo, so they ordered the students to either remove their shirts or leave school in direct violation of their First Amendment rights," Muise said.

William Becker, one of the lawyers representing the students, said he plans to ask a special 11-judge panel of the appeals court to rehear the case. Becker said he would appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court if he loses again.

"The 9th Circuit upheld the rights of Mexican students celebrating a holiday of another country over U.S. student proudly supporting this country," Becker said.

Cinco de Mayo marks the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when Mexican troops defeated a French army of Napoleon III, then considered the mightiest military in the world. It is considered a bigger holiday in the U.S., celebrating Mexican heritage with parades and revelry in many major cities."

  • IT''S CALLED SOCIAL ENGINEERING!

  • Right on we agree again BD.....

  • I've read this but nothing surprises me anymore. These courts needs to quit their legislating from the bench before they destroy America. They are pushing us all into the closet to accept others and our rights are laughed at anytime we complain. What this country needs is a good SPRING CLEANING itself to get the leaders back to working for the people who elects them and I do not mean by going to the polls.
