Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Kentucky Passes Cannabis Access Resolution

Friday June 13th 2014, and a full moon must have been lucky for supporters of a Veterans of Foreign Wars resolution calling on the VFW to support Veteran access to medical cannabis through the auspices of the Veterans Administration.

The resolution which passed at the Department of Kentucky State Convention calls on the Federal Government to begin ‘post haste’ to provide medical cannabis to Veterans with qualifying conditions through the Veteran Administration Hospital System pharmacies.  The resolution goes on to state that this could easily be accomplished with a voucher system for Veterans living in medical cannabis states and through the old compassionate care program which supplies patients from the old program with medical cannabis every month from the Government cannabis farm in Mississippi.

The resolution came out of Post 3205 in Alexandria in 2012 and passed buy a 5 to 1 margin at the District 9 meeting that December.  It was quashed at the Spring Conference in 2013, was revived for the State Convention this year by the Pikeville Post 3769, garnered wide support and passed with only 2 dissenting votes.

The resolution will be brought up at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention to be held in St Louis July 19th through the 23rd.
