Calling all bird watchers and those who would like to begin watching birds -
The Frankfort Audubon Society is presenting a bird identification program at the Paul Sawyier Public Library on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. In this one hour introductory workshop, participants will learn the basics of identifying birds, things needed, and good places for birding in Franklin County. The public is invited to attend - free of charge.
The program will include a video on the four keys to bird identification and a slide show of local birds. Participants will have an opportunity to apply newly acquired bird watching skills at the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) on February 17-20.
The 15th annual GBBC is a citizen science project of the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The event is an opportunity for families, students, and people of all ages to discover the wonders of nature in backyards, schoolyards, and local parks, and at the same time, make an important contribution to conservation. Participants count bird species and report their sightings online at www.birdcount.org.
