Officials: Speed, alcohol blamed for Switzer wreck

State Journal Staff Report Published:

Franklin County officials say speed and alcohol were contributing factors to Monday’s Jones Lane wreck that ended with a Frankfort man being airlifted from the scene around 9:15 p.m.

Chester McDonald, 36, was traveling north at a “high rate of speed” near Switzer Road in a white 1990 Chevy pickup when he overcorrected at the top of a hill and hit several trees, Sheriff Pat Melton said.

“The bed (of the vehicle) separated from the truck and the frame wrapped around a tree. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt,” Melton told The State Journal.

His condition is listed as fair, according to a spokesperson from the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

  • I'd say alcohol ranks up there, too.

  • According to AAA, speeding is the number one cause of fatal accidents.
