A former Franklin County deputy clerk has been indicted for theft after officials discovered she stole about $4,600 while on the job at the county clerk’s office, a prosecutor says.

Stephanie Williams, 26, of Waddy, was working as a deputy clerk when cash shortages were discovered in the county clerk’s office from April 2 to May 29, Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland said.

“A closer look was taken at what stations in the county clerk’s office she was working, and it was noticed that money was taken from those particular stations,” Cleveland said.

Cleveland says he expects officials to find additional missing funds.

“She was confronted and admitted she had financial problems and resorted to this to meet her financial needs,” Cleveland said.

She has been terminated from her position, Cleveland said.

Others indicted Wednesday by the Franklin County grand jury included:

>Manee Shepherd, 23, of 414 Harrodswood Dr. #3, for possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana July 2.

>Christopher Baker, 28, of 35 Ashwood Court, for burglary and being a persistent felony offender.
