Ashley Judd hints at Senate run in speech

CINCINNATI (AP) — Actress and Kentucky native Ashley Judd made a rare public reference to her possible run for the seat held by Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

WXIX-TV says Judd gave the keynote speech Friday at the American Counseling Association's 2013 conference in Cincinnati.

In speaking about her personal experience with depression, she said when she started in counseling she didn't like to be criticized. She added that was ironic since she was, in her words, "about to get $40 million worth of it."

Judd also said her mother, Naomi Judd, can't wait to turn her garage into a campaign headquarters.

Judd is a former Kentucky resident now living outside of Nashville, Tenn.

She has been largely mum about her intentions. Defeating McConnell would be the Democrats' biggest prize of the 2014 election.

  • ukfan, do not feed the trolls, and maybe they will go away! Hint, hint!

  • I really could care less if she does or not agree that is her perogative. She is trying to say that I am 1713. Just because I dont "comment" on someones position that doesnt mean i agree with them. I am not looking for a good "speaker". I am looking for someone that cares. And I feel Judd would be great. I really know that that are not the same I was just making fun of how she thinks if you agree with anyone you are the same.

  • I have been here for a very long time, and I have never seen you disagree with 1713 or any of his previous monikers. mom3 has disagreed with need before. ********************************************** As to Judd, being that she is ultra liberal and not well coached in public speaking, they have to start working with her now, if she is their only option to de-throne McConnell. He might find competition within his own party first before the Democrats come up with a suitable candidate to do the job. A famous name and pretty face isn't going to do it. I have heard her speak in public. Good luck with that choice.

  • OMG look mom3 and need4speed agreed.....they must be the same posters.

  • Need4speed, agreed.

  • (offers bro fist to aga) Agreed. Anyone.

  • I smell fear......

  • Surely the Democrats can find a better candidate. Trading one Dudd for another is not a good solution.

  • Driving them crazy with suspense...I love it!

  • I would vote for her. Anyone but Mitch.
