A two-vehicle collision Thursday near Waddy has left one man dead and one injured.
A 2013 Freightliner Dump Truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 60 when the tire tread came off the vehicle, causing Jonathan Denning, 28, of New Albany, to cross the center line, according to Kentucky State Police.
Demming collided head-on with a silver 1999 Ford F-150, his dump truck overturning partially on the cab of the pickup.
The driver of the pickup truck, James Walker, 57, of Lawrenceburg, was pronounced dead at the scene, Shelby County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeff Ivers said. Demming was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with minor injuries.
The resulting fuel spill required cleanup, blocking the road from KY 395 to KY 53 through afternoon rush hour.
Kentucky State Police responded to the scene with assistance from Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Shelby County Fire/EMS, Shelby County Coroner’s Office, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Environmental Protection Agency and Kentucky State Police Collision Analysis Branch.
The accident is still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police, Post 12 Accident Reconstruction Team.
