Husband, wife found dead in their home

Officials: Death investigation is ongoing; situation doesn’t appear suspicious at this point

State Journal staff report, Published:

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton confirmed that his office is involved in an open death investigation after a husband and wife were found dead in their home.

Melton said deputies were called Friday afternoon for a well-being check at a home on McCann Lane.

When they arrived, they found Charles “Porkey” Kelly, 76, and Dora Alice Green Kelly, 55, dead.

“It’s really uncertain and undetermined at this time what the cause of death is,” Coroner Will Harrod said.

Melton said his office has responded to several well-being checks at that address in recent weeks. He said he could not comment on what they found at the scene because the investigation remains open.

Harrod said he would likely know a preliminary cause of death in about a week, pending toxicology results.

The official cause of death will take four to six weeks.

Both Melton and Harrod said at this point, nothing appears suspicious about the deaths.
