A masked robber is on the loose after police say he allegedly shot at a restaurant employee Wednesday night.
Frankfort Police Capt. Robert Warfel said officers were called to Captain D’s on Versailles Road around 10:30 p.m.
An employee was coming out of the store to lock up for the night, Warfel said. He was carrying a deposit bag containing an undisclosed amount of money.
“He was approached by what he said was a male subject with a handgun,” Warfel said. “He demanded money.”
The employee immediately took off running.
“When he did, the robber fired a shot at him,” Warfel said, “at which time he tossed the bag down and really took off running.”
The employee was able to get away. He ran back into the store, locked the door and called police, Warfel said.
The suspect allegedly grabbed the deposit bag and ran off toward Cardinal Hills subdivision.
The employee wasn’t hurt.
“We did recover some physical evidence at the scene,” Warfel said. “A bullet fragment out of the pavement and a shell casing.”
Police will also be looking at surveillance footage, Warfel said, to see if they can learn more about what happened.
Warfel said investigators aren’t sure at this point if the suspect had any ties to Captain D’s, but they aren’t ruling anything out.
“Those are always angles that we look at when we’re investigating something like this,” Warfel said.
The suspect is described as being about 5’9” tall and 200 pounds, wearing a dark-colored ski mask, dark-colored hoodie with a white T-shirt underneath and dark-colored pants.
Warfel said they believe the suspect is a black man. The victim told police he was not wearing gloves and he could see the suspect’s hands.
