Man freed in rape is arrested

By GAYLE COULTER State Journal Staff Writer Published:

Herman May, whose rape case has received national attention, was arrested today on charges of possession of marijuana.

Frankfort Police Officer Herb Wilson reported he'd received a call about a car broken into on Colonial Trace and was checking the area at about 6:07 a.m. Wilson reported he noticed a car parked on Montclair running with the windshield wipers on and the driver's window rolled down. When Wilson stopped to check the vehicle, he reported seeing May throw a suspected marijuana cigarette out the window.

May was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana and taken into custody at Franklin County Regional Jail. Bond had been posted at press time and May has been released.

May was also found with a hunting knife in his possession, according to police, but there was no weapons charge.
