Tis the season for holiday parties, but the Franklin County Health Department cautions prospective hosts to make sure their caterer follows all safety guidelines.
Environmental Health Director Kendra Palmer said there are several caterers operating illegally in the county. While they may have a business license, many dont have the license and permits through the health department a requirement to operate a commercial catering venture.
I think a lot of people are going to home-based business and its easy for a lot of people, she said. Stay-at-home moms, empty-nesting moms. Its an easy and fun way to make money.
The problem is the health department regulations that impose requirements primarily for safety reasons are not being followed.
