Barton's spouse on ABC board

John Barton, the husband of County Judge-Executive Teresa Barton, who publicly supported Gov. Ernie Fletcher in the governor's race, has received an appointment from the new governor.

Fletcher announced this week John Barton has been appointed to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, a three-member regulatory board which governs the distilled spirits industry. He previously served at the agency as an investigative branch manager in the enforcement division.

Barton, whose term expires January 2008, said he hasn't been informed what his salary will be, but expects to be making about $12,000 more than his current $67,000 a year.

"I'm very honored the governor selected me for this position," said John Barton, during a brief interview Thursday at a legislative reception sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.

"I'm looking forward to working hard for the commonwealth and for the governor."
