Traffic fatality in area blamed on weather

By CHARLES PEARL State Journal Staff Writer Published:

Kentucky State Police were investigating a weather-related highway fatality on U.S. 421 south (Leestown Road), near the Franklin County-Woodford County line at presstime, according to state police spokesman Ron Turley.

Two vehicles were involved in the 8:20 a.m. wreck and there was one fatality, Turley said. No other details were available.

Around 9 a.m., Steve Clark, spokesman for the Frankfort Police Department, said he hadn't received reports of any snow-related accidents in the city.

Up to five inches of snow was reported by county road crews in some areas of Franklin County.

The snow, beginning around 10 p.m. Thursday, closed Franklin County Schools, Frankfort Independent Schools and Good Shepherd School. Capital Day School and Frankfort Christian Academy were open on regular schedule, and most students at both schools arrived on time without any problems, school officials said.
