After only a few months of construction, the first piece of West Ridge Plaza - the new 95,000-square foot Home Depot store - is in place and headed toward a February grand opening.
The chain home improvement store, which also includes a 25,700-square foot garden center adjacent to main unit, is slated to open Feb. 7 or 8, according to local attorney Charles Jones, who represents the developers. Further commercial development in the area is in the planning stages.
"It's going really well," said Jones of the Home Depot construction.
The project, which will face the competing Poplar Creek Plaza on the other side of U.S. 127 south, will encompass about 22 acres of property in western Franklin County when it is completed. Tentative plans include four more lots containing retail stores, a restaurant and a possible hotel.
Home Depot is south of and slightly behind Kroger in Franklin West Shopping Center. The remaining undeveloped lots lie within the boundaries of site - known locally as the Noel property - bordering the new road, West Ridge Drive.
