Quiet area fights to stay peaceful

Sue Carter is a preservationist.

She said she enjoys living on Game Farm Road, in a quiet, rural setting tucked away from commercial development. Her only neighbors are the five other families who live in the area and the Salato Wildlife Center Game Farm.

That's why a proposed zone change which could pave the way for higher-density development in the area has her worried. In response to that concern, Carter said, she and more than 200 people have signed a petition opposing the zone change.

"I'm one of those tree-hugger nuts," said Carter. "I'm a vegetarian and an animal rights person. I'm concerned about the sanctity of the Game Farm."

A public hearing for the zone change from Charles David and Julia Gabbart Morris is on the agenda for the Frankfort-Franklin County Planning Commission meeting Monday. The rezoning asks the commission to rezone 54.3 acres at 1904 Louisville Road from rural residential (RR) to single-family residential (RB).

The property is in western Franklin County, adjacent to the Game Farm and across the road from the Julian Farm, according to a staff report from the county planning office.
