Hands-on control

What are teachers to do when behavior problems are on the increase and the days of corporal punishment are long gone?

Franklin County teachers and staff can choose to take a special training class on how to handle an out-of-control student.

Teachers can opt to take the "Safe Physical Management" class as part of their professional development.

The class teaches a variety of holding techniques along with the best way to handle the three phases to a child's blowup.

Multiple intervention is recommended so there is more than one teacher to handle the situation, said Mike Stapleton, psychologist for the Franklin County school district in an earlier interview.
