Quick recallers sharpening up

How quick can you answer this: Through which two modern-day countries does the Indus River flow?

If you answered Pakistan and India within a minute, try this one: What term was once used to describe the female lead in an opera, is Italian for "first lady" and is a phrase now used to refer to a bossy woman who always has to have her way?

If you said "prima donna," then you might be able to hold your own against middle school members of Quick Recall teams who compete at 10:45 a.m. Saturday for the chance to advance to the Governor's Cup State Finals in Louisville March 9-10.

If you couldn't answer correctly, you can attend the Quick Recall competition at Second Street School and watch in amazement as these students answer questions that would stump many adults because the event is open to the public.

Each match has two 12-minute halves, said Rose Arnold, one of Second Street School's Quick Recall coaches who is helping to host the event.
