Utility crews endure cold so others can stay warm

It's 2 p.m. and Keith Bingham is hoisted high above Frankfort doing repair work on a damaged electric transformer.

"It's doesn't bother me a bit," says Bingham.

Frankfort Electric and Water Plant Board Electric Superintendent Rodney Simpson says it's all a part of the job. Workers are comfortable in the small boxes attached to the crane trucks' aerial lifts which carry them to the top of electric poles.

"It's like second nature to them," says Simpson. "They're just as comfortable up there as they are down here."

Tuesday afternoon Bingham, crane truck operator Donnie Smither, Rick Mason and Jeff McDonald are hard at work removing the damaged transformer which had exploded a little earlier. No one was injured, says Simpson, but one crew member was covered in oil.
