Prosecutor has double trouble with two bigamy cases

Whether they're hopeless romantics or don't know how to say good-bye in the legal sense, two men are wanted on bigamy charges in Franklin County.

"I've gone through my entire life without ever thinking about prosecuting a bigamy case and then got two in the same day," said Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland. "Two different women came in with similar sad stories. When it rains, it pours."

James Keith McDonald, 34, married two different Franklin County women - the first in 1990 and the second in 1995. The problem is, Cleveland said, McDonald allegedly didn't bother to get a divorce from his first wife.

McDonald, who is also wanted for failure to pay child-support, is believed to be in Florida. He has been indicted on the bigamy charge and a warrant will be issued for his arrest, Cleveland said. That means, if stopped, McDonald will be extradited back to Franklin County on the bigamy charges.

Bill Steve Mitchell, 45, married a woman in Pennsylvania, apparently separated from her and filed for divorce there but it was dismissed, Cleveland said.
