City schools leader will retire June 30

Superintendent Mike Oder told members of the Frankfort Independent Board of Education at Tuesday night's meeting that he will retire June 30.

"You would think that when this time comes, that it would be an easy decision to make," Oder said. "Well, it isn't. It is very difficult to leave an organization as wonderful as this school district, but the timing is right."

Oder is retiring after 27 years working as an educator. He was a coach and teacher in Spencer County before coming to Frankfort High where he was principal for five years and superintendent for the past 12 years.

"Being superintendent of the Frankfort Independent School District is an honor and privilege because of all the people who are and have been associated with this district," Oder said. "Some districts are built around test scores and finances, and while those are areas this school district can be proud of, this district is built around people."

Board members gave Oder a standing ovation and applauded him following his announcement.
