A Bourbon and Bluegrass Festival is coming to Frankfort Aug. 22-23 at Lakeview Park.
Tony Charters, executive director of the Frankfort-Franklin County Tourist and Convention Commission, and Kim Refalo, festival committee chairwoman, briefed Franklin Fiscal Court on the festival at Thursday's work session.
"Bluegrass music is really big right now and is part of the tradition of this part of the state," Charters said. "We wanted to make it associated with bourbon, something else that is very traditional and very much a part of Frankfort and the area."
Charters said the committee talked to No Tools Loaned, a popular local bluegrass group, "and they're very enthusiastic about a festival in Frankfort," Charters said. "We've been working on organizing the festival for about a month and we're in the process now of trying to get the headliner acts tied down."
Refalo, a big fan of bluegrass music, said they want it to be a family event where children, parents and grandparents can enjoy the entertainment.
