Historical Society director says he'll miss Kentucky

Dr. Kevin Graffagnino doesn't look at his departure from the Kentucky Historical Society as leaving the state. He looks at it as a chance to go home.

Graffagnino, who has served as the executive director of KHS since 1999, will be taking the same job in his home state of Vermont.

"I want the Vermont Historical Society to be what the Kentucky Historical Society has become," said Graffagnino, who'll leave his post April 4.

Graffagnino worked for 20 years in Vermont, before moving to the State Historical Society of Wisconsin and then to Kentucky.

"I'll go back to Vermont knowing a lot more about the context (of its history) nationally as well as regionally," he said.

His work in Kentucky has given him broader experience in administration as well as working with a legislative body. He believes his work here will also give him a broader perspective on Vermont history during the same period.
