Frankfort's William C. Hardin, 72, was a prisoner of war for 999 days during the Korean War.
The 6 foot 2 Hardin weighed 222 pounds when he left the United States for Korea. He weighed 126 when he was released in 1953.
Almost 50 years later, it's still too painful for him to share many war memories with others. And the war in Iraq weighs heavily on his mind now.
His only grandson, Jeremy T. Wilson, 20, a 2001 graduate of Franklin County High School, is in Iraq. He's a lance corporal with the U.S. Marines.
