Game Farm subdivision not dead yet

By CHARLES PEARL State Journal Staff Writer Published:

Franklin Fiscal Court is considering approval of a zone change that will allow a new subdivision near Game Farm Road.

Granting the zone change would go against the Frankfort-Franklin County Planning Commission's recommendation to deny the rezoning. The commission voted 6-2 in March to deny a zone change request from David and Julia Gabbart Morris for 54.3 acres at 1904 Louisville Road.

The Morrises were seeking a zone change from RR-Rural Residential to RB-Single Family Residential "B" density.

A subdivision intended for the site has been a point of concern for neighbors who live along Game Farm Road. The group opposed any large-scale subdivision in the area and told the planning commission it would detract from the Game Farm and the rural atmosphere.

One of the items on Thursday's Fiscal Court meeting agenda was a first reading to deny the zone change. But in the work session, three of the six magistrates said they would vote to approve the zone change and Judge-Executive Teresa Barton said she is leaning toward approving it "because we need development."
