Chandler dominates rally here

The largest sign inside Lakeview Park's Hancock Pavilion Thursday evening was displayed right behind the speakers' stage: Chandler and Owen - 2003. It was the only sign behind the speakers' stage.

Soon after Ben Chandler, Democratic candidate for governor, joined his running mate for lieutenant governor, Charlie Owen, on stage at the Democratic rally, Chandler introduced the crowd of around 200 to his wife, Jennifer Romine Chandler.

"I'm proud of my Franklin County girl and I found her to be intelligent," said Chandler, referring to a campaign ad for Democratic opponent Bruce Lunsford in which green aliens implied intelligent life couldn't be found in Frankfort.

Jennifer Chandler is a Franklin County High School and University of Kentucky graduate, having a bachelor's degree in communications. Born in Kenton County, she moved with her family in 1972 to Frankfort when her father, Russell Romine, was named assistant state highway engineer with the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

"I'm proud to be Franklin County's neighbor in Woodford County," Ben Chandler said.
