Driver thrown from car

State Journal Staff Report Published:

Misting rain conditions Wednesday may have contributed to an accident in which a Frankfort woman was ejected from her car and thrown onto Versailles Road.

Mary L. Barber, 24, was attempting to make a left turn from Green Manor when she apparently pulled into the path of an SUV driven by Eric K. Rice, of Lexington, according to a Frankfort Police Department report.

Rice, 42, who was traveling east on Versailles Road, hit Barber's Hyundai Elantra on the driver's side, the report said. Barber was ejected from the car and thrown onto Versailles Road. The driver's side airbag in her vehicle deployed but the police report did not indicate whether she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Frankfort Emergency Medical Services transported Barber to Frankfort Regional Medical Center by ambulance where she was admitted with multiple injuries and listed in stable condition today.

Two female passengers in Barber's car, Amber Talbot and Janet Talbot, both of LeClaire, Iowa, were uninjured. Rice, who was driving a 1998 Infiniti QX4, was not injured.

Traffic was tied up for about 30 minutes as police and Frankfort Fire personnel blocked part of Versailles Road in order to clear the scene.
