The Rev. Robert Jackson, two-time pastor of Buck Run Baptist Church, has resigned after 21 years of service in Frankfort.

"While it came as an initial shock to the congregation, it was not surprising," he said. "About three years ago I began to talk frankly with the church about the time I would step down. I even proposed a pastoral transition plan."

Jackson has stepped down for several reasons, he said. His father lives in Alabama and is in bad health. An only child,he flies to Alabama monthly to care for his father. And the pastor, who is 66, also cited his age as a factor.

Jackson leaves the church in the midst of a project to move the church to its Rehoboth campus on U.S. 421. The church recently completed fund-raising, he said.

"Right now is best because it falls at an intermediate transition between the fund-raising facet and the actual groundbreaking," he added.
