Writing up a storm

Olivia Estill is a celebrated author at age 11.

Olivia received The (Louisville) Courier-Journal Award for a book she wrote, illustrated and bound as part of a project in Danny Ellison's fifth-grade English class at Capital Day School.

Olivia's story, titled "Thunderstorm," won in the Courier-Journal Young Authors' Award program.

Nearly 70,000 students in Kentucky and Southern Indiana participated in this year's competition. Her book earned recognition as the outstanding representative of all fifth-grade student entries.

The Young Authors Award program was started in 1978 to encourage book production in elementary and middle school grades. There are 13 divisions of competition.
