May released from jail after guilty plea to DUI

Herman May was released Thursday from the Franklin County Regional Jail after pleading guilty to driving under the influence in Franklin District Court.

Franklin District Court Judge Thomas Wingate agreed to merge the speeding charge May got with the DUI last Friday. Wingate suspended May's driver's license for 30 days and ordered him to enroll in an alcohol treatment program and pay fines and costs of $560.50 due by Oct. 31.

Until Thursday, May was being held on a $2,000 cash bond at the Franklin County Regional Jail following his arrest for DUI and speeding.

Franklin County District Court Judge Guy Hart denied a request by May's attorney Wendy Anderson Monday to lower the bond to 10 percent or $200. Anderson is the daughter of Jerry Anderson, who also represents May.
