Despite the steamy Fourth of July weather, thousands of people turned out to view the fireworks display Friday night at River View Park.
Riverfest organizer and Frankfort Recreation Director Steve Brooks estimated the crowd that lined up to view the dazzling display must have reached about 20,000.
"We had a successful weekend but the crowds were down about 3,000 from last year at some of the other events," Brooks said.
He said he figured there were some who simply couldn't take the heat opting to instead stay home in air conditioning.
"One thing is when it's so hot, people don't like to walk, so I'd like to run shuttles next year," Brooks said.
He also said it might have been a mistake to split the events into a two-day period instead of keeping it confined to a one-day celebration.
