The Mercer Group of Atlanta, which is being paid $12,500 and up to $7,500 in expenses for recruiting a new city manager in Frankfort, is getting ready to send out an advertising brochure regarding the vacancy.
Jim Mercer with the company attended Monday's City Commission work session and discussed the time frame for hiring a new city manager.
The commission voted 4-1 on April 7 to fire City Manager Bob Elliott after just seven months on the job. Reasons given were failure to handle city staff matters properly and not following the commission's orders.
Before coming to Frankfort, Elliott was fired as city manager in Columbia, Tenn., in January, 2002, after a political struggle with the city council over hiring a new police chief.
In May 2002, the City Commission ousted City Manager Ken Thompson, who served in the position for 14 years, longer than anyone else who had worked in the post.
Elliott was hired at an annual salary of $95,168. Thompson made $103,000.
