Fair queen starts her busy reign

Kaitlyn Hall hardly ever smiled during rehearsals for the Miss Franklin County Fair pageant. But when she stepped onto stage, it was a completely different story.

Hall won the coveted title of 2003 fair queen Monday evening after a practically flawless performance. And she was grinning the entire time.

"She assured me that come pageant time she would smile," said pageant director Patti Cross.

"I told her!" laughed Hall.

The first part of the competition was one-on-one interviews with three judges. Melanie Glasscock-Simpson of Nicholasville, Betsy Dailey of Paris and Susanna Dailey, a student at University of Kentucky, were the pageant's judges.

"I went in nervous and came out 100 percent better," said Hall. "(The judges) really helped calm me down because they were very friendly."
