It was a warm Saturday morning in June 2001 when the body of 68-year-old Katherine Tatman was discovered in her small Fort Boone apartment.

She had been stabbed to death.

According to the autopsy report, she was stabbed multiple times. Both Franklin County Coroner Michael Harrod and the state medical examiner said the report was inconclusive as to whether she was sexually assaulted in the attack.

Ronnie Rothwell, then-apartment manager of Fort Boone Plaza Apartments, told Frankfort Police he noticed water in the hallway that morning when he exited the rental office, which was located directly next to Tatman's apartment, #302.

Rothwell told police he followed the water to Tatman's door, which was ajar. H e said he knocked and receiving no answer, pushed the door open and saw Tatman's body lying on the floor.
