Save the Grand Theatre Inc. and First Baptist Church of Clinton Street are requesting a grant from the Renaissance Kentucky/Main Street program.
The second of two public hearings was held Tuesday evening in the community room at Farmers Bank and Capital Trust Co. regarding grant requests. Representatives of the Grand Theatre project and First Baptist Church attended both public hearings to request funding.
Sheila White, executive director of Downtown Frankfort Inc., conducted the hearings, saying each Renaissance Kentucky/Main Street community may submit only one grant application for a maximum of $250,000.
Applications must be submitted jointly from the city of Frankfort and the local Renaissance/Main Street program by Aug. 29. White said $2 million has been appropriated for downtown revitalization funds and Frankfort could be competing against 81 other communities for one of the grants.
White said a special meeting of the Downtown Frankfort board will probably be held Friday to discuss recommending a project for funding. Then a recommendation will be given to the City Commission at Mondays work session. The commission can discuss the recommendation at the work session but cant vote until the Aug. 18 regular meeting.
