The Frankfort-Franklin County Tourist and Convention Commission has a new executive director. Joy Jeffries, who is currently executive director of the Bastrop, La., Tourism Commission and Chamber of Commerce, was hired this week at a starting salary of $42,500.

She will be moving to Frankfort by the end of August.

Jeffries, 57, has nearly 10 years experience in the tourism field as a director and has worked in management positions for more than 25 years. Robin Antenucci, the newly elected chairwoman of the local tourist commission, said Jeffries brings a proven track record in leadership, tourism development and management.

"We were very pleased to have received over 80 rsums for the executive director's position, including many very qualified individuals from a wide range of locations in Kentucky and the United States," Antenucci said Wednesday afternoon. "The personnel committee spent many hours reviewing the rsums and interviewing candidates.

"Joy was selected from seven top candidates based on her extensive, direct experience in the tourism field. She has the skills we need to promote and develop tourism within Franklin County."

The commission's vote to hire her was unanimous, Antenucci said.
