Old Capitol fountain, youth corps get aid

Two agencies in Franklin County will be receive a combined $150,000 in federal funds. The grants are a part of $10.5 million awarded to Kentucky cities and counties in federal money for road improvement and restoration projects.

The state Historic Properties will get $50,000 in federal funding to restore the historic fountain in front of the Old Capitol in downtown Frankfort.

Patrick Kennedy, restoration project manager for the Kentucky Heritage Council, said the fountain will be restored to working condition and to its original multi-tiered appearance.

The Kentucky Urban Youth Corps program, a summer program through Kentucky State University, will also receive $100,000 in federal funds. At press time, KSU officials could not be reached for comment on how the money would be spent.
