A new WB affiliate soon will be added to the Frankfort Electric and Water Plant Board's basic cable lineup.
The local utility's board of directors on Tuesday approved the addition of WBKI-TV, a full-time, full-power WB-affiliated station which broadcasts to the greater Louisville area. The WB, which is owned by AOL Time Warner, is known for popular programming such as the now-defunct Dawson's Creek, 7th Heaven and Angel.
WBKI replaces WBLU-TV, a low-power TV station out of Lexington, said John Higginbotham, director of media services for the plant board. WBKI-TV will be shown on Channel 62, the same channel as WBLU.
"We feel pretty good about (the new contract)," said Higginbotham. "And our customers should feel pretty good about it too because they'll be able to see WB programs."
The Cable Advisory Committee voted earlier this month to drop WBLU, which was added to Frankfort cable in 1999, and add WBKI. The committee went with the replacement after WBLU informed the plant board it had lost its WB affiliation on June 30.
