Bourbon & Bluegrass Festival has a tough debut in heat and rain

By CHARLES PEARL State Journal Staff Writer Published:

Stormy weather and a small crowd didn't dampen their enthusiasm for being in the bluegrass state Friday.

Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia from Paris, France, attended the first Bourbon & Bluegrass Festival at Lakeview Park.

"This is not my first trip to Kentucky but it is my first visit to Frankfort," said Boutin, who received a lot of flattering comments about his bright orange running shoes. "It is a beautiful town."

He said he played bluegrass music in the mid-1970s before moving into rock.

"Bluegrass is authentic," Boutin said. "I like its drive. It has a strong drive, and I find the banjo an incredible instrument. I am sorry more people are not here, but this is the first year for the festival and I believe it will become a popular event."
