Local cyclists won't soon forget adventurous ride to Alaska

It was the ride of a lifetime.

That's how Asa Rouse describes his recent motorcycle trip to Alaska with friends Windy Quire and Rick Otto.

Quire and Otto are Frankfort residents and Rouse is a native of Walton in northern Kentucky. All three are members of the Central Kentucky Riders Motorcycle Touring Club based in Frankfort.

Even though Rouse, 73, has slept in a tepee on the Snake River, gone scuba diving in a full wetsuit in the wintertime and served as a Kentucky Supreme Court judge, he's already wondering what his next adventure will be.

"How can you ever top that?" Rouse asks. "It was one oohhh and aaahhh after another with wow thrown in."

The three men, who have been riding together for about 11 years, rode Honda Gold Wings, Rouse said. They always wear helmets that have built-in microphones and earpieces so they can talk to one another or listen to music. They spent six weeks making their way to Alaska and back.
