Feuding state workers urged to settle, make up

By MELISSA ARNOLD State Journal Staff Writer Published:

A preliminary hearing was held Thursday morning for the three state employees who are appealing disciplinary actions taken against them by the Cabinet for Health Services.

Administrative specialists Melissa Brewer, Jennifer Cohorn and Beverly Stokes are appealing the actions taken against them on July 30 for filing false time sheets and misusing the Internet. The three say there are too many discrepancies in the evidence used against them. The two other employees disciplined aren't appealing.

The three employees faced either five or seven days suspension without pay and in addition Cohorn was demoted.

The three attended the hearing, but were not represented by legal counsel. Gary Garrison was there as the general counsel for the Cabinet for Health Services. John Ryan was the hearing officer.

Ryan encouraged the parties to settle and to talk to each other.
