Hundreds of friends and colleagues were expected at the Capitol today to mourn the loss of former Kentucky Gov. Edward T. "Ned" Breathitt.
Breathitt, 78, died Tuesday at the University of Kentucky after collapsing over the weekend following a speaking engagement. He was living in Lexington at the time of his death.
A memorial service was to be held at 11 a.m. today in the Capitol Rotunda. His body is to lie in state in the Rotunda before and after a memorial service - from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from about 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Rev. Al Gwinn, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Lexington, was to preside at the memorial service with additional remarks by newspaper columnist and author John Ed Pearce.
Music was to be provided by the Kentucky State University concert choir.
