Woman hit by truck, killed on U.S. 460

State Journal Staff Report Published:

Two accidents on Georgetown Road Thursday night within an hour and half killed a woman and injured a man.

Dena Wawarski, 50, of 4900 Georgetown Road, died about 6:13 p.m. when she was struck by a pickup.

Wawarski was apparently following her dog as she crossed Georgetown Road and ran out in front of a pickup traveling eastbound, according to a report from Franklin County Sheriff Ted Collins.

Kenneth Gaunce, 68, of Stamping Ground, was the driver of the pickup. Witnesses said Gaunce did not have time to react before hitting Wawarski, said Pat Melton, a detective for the sheriff's office.

Wawarski was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's report.
