Cracker Barrel issue defies action

By CHARLES PEARL State Journal Staff Writer Published:

The Cracker Barrel issue will return to Franklin County Fiscal Court's plate.

A grid-locked Frankfort-Franklin County Planning Commission failed to reach a consensus on zoning for the popular restaurant Thursday evening.

Now the decision whether to grant a zone change will rest solely in the hands of Fiscal Court.

The Bizzack family requested a zone change for 10 acres at the southwest corner of the Interstate 64 and Versailles Road intersection. The request is to rezone the property from Professional Office to Highway Commercial.

The Bizzacks sought and received approval for commercial zoning in 2001, only to have the matter overturned by the Court of Appeals last May.

Even though the commission found evidence to support the zone change - after hearing testimony given by people on both sides of the issue at a lengthy public hearing in September - it couldn't make a decision either way Thursday.
