New hospital administrator is anxious to start

Talking on his cell phone as he traveled from Evansville, Ind., an air of optimism inflected Michael Mayo's voice.

He said he envisions a hospital more connected to the community. Better communication among staff and administrators. And a health care facility perceived by the people of Frankfort and its surrounding communities as their number one stop for care.

And he doesn't even call Frankfort home yet.

Named Frankfort Regional Medical Center's chief executive officer in September, Mayo comes to the local hospital via Jacksonville, Fla. where he served as CEO of CHA's flagship site. He replaces David Steitz, who departed the Frankfort hospital in May after six years as the top administrator.

"I have a real passion for this type of work in terms of I believe the hospital is a community treasure," said Mayo, who celebrated his 49th birthday Friday.
