The easy decision for Franklin County Judge-Executive Teresa Barton, a Democrat, was to give Republican gubernatorial candidate Ernie Fletcher her public support.
The much tougher decision for 42-year-old Barton surfaced after Congressman Fletcher soundly defeated Democrat Ben Chandler in the November election.
While standing on stage in the front row near Gov.-elect Fletcher and his wife, Glenna, at the packed Marriott-Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington at the victory celebration, Barton must have been thinking at some point - what now?
Inside her big white house on Bittersweet Lane in southern Franklin County Thursday evening, Barton was sitting at a table in the spacious kitchen looking through photo albums, scrapbooks and other memorabilia from the campaign trail.
In the garage a vehicle still has one of those black and gold bumper stickers saying Another Democrat For Fletcher.
She's elated that she was chosen as the grand marshal for Tuesday's Inaugural Parade. Barton and her husband, John, will be riding right in front of the Lafayette High School Marching Band and Gov. Fletcher and the first lady.
